Ward Abuse in 7.39b – Here’s What We Know about Dota 2’s Latest Bug

A new Dota 2 bug involving the ability to purchase infinite quantity of observer and sentry wards is now the talk of the Dota 2 community. Dota 2 Reddit posts about the new Dota 2 ward bug have been circulating, showing how players have hundreds and even thousands of observer bugs in their inventory.

Dota 2 Ward Bug in patch 7.39b

The unlimited Dota 2 wards bug is an unusual bug discovered in the latest patch 7.39b out of the blue. Players accidentally discovered it when they found out they were able to purchase wards indefinitely after they respawned from a death.

Considering how easy it was to replicate this bug, it didn’t take long before Dota 2 players begin abusing it in their games.

Too much vision

With an unlimited capacity of thousands of Observer Wards, the entire Dota 2 map would be as visible as possible since there’s no fog of war. Dota 2 carry players are even taking hold of the wards themselves since it’s free after all.

However, it seems that abusing the Dota 2 ward bug backfires pretty quickly after players realized those wards still offer bounty for destroying them. As such, opponents would get a Gem of True Sight relatively early into the game, as a tool to detect and destroy these Observer Wards.

Alternatively, some players have even found a countermeasure to this by leaving free Sentry Wards on the ground for the unsuspecting opponent to pick up and use them. Since those Sentry Wards were formerly owned by the player, the bounty from destroying Observer Wards using the true sight of the dropped Sentry Ward, will go to the original purchaser.

How to avoid the Dota 2 Ward Bug?

Unfortunately, everyone’s utilizing this newfound bug that is beneficial to both sides of the Dota 2 team, so your best action would be to do the same too.

However, instead of simply placing as many observer wards wherever you like since it’s free. Be more strategic on your ward placements as if they were still limited.

All in all, the Dota 2 Ward Bug is not the most game-breaking bug we have encountered before, albeit it can be a slight nuisance. We don’t expect pro players participating in the International 2025 Regional Qualifiers to be abusing them since that’s a bannable offense.
